AP Lit&Comp (Friedman) ๐
AP Lit is a class almost always taken by juniors as a prerequisite for AP Lang, most students that took honors lit their freshman and sophomore years take it. Although it will be tough, you can still take it if you have only taken regular lit classes, but it will take a lot of time and work to adjust.
1st Quarter
You will focus on:
Poetry
reading an AP Lit prompt
how to structure/outline/write an AP Lit essay
How to read & breakdown a poem
You will read:
Hamlet
Their Eyes Were Watching God
2nd Quarter
You will read:
Their Eyes Were Watching God
A Lesson Before Dying
The Old Man And The Sea
3rd Quarter
You will read:
Slaughterhouse 5
4th Quarter
In-class essays:-
Every other Friday, you will have an in-class essay, where you are expected to establish a theme relating to the prompt and the excerpt you are given. You will have 3 each quarter but only the one where you scored the highest on will count toward your final grade.
In-class MCQ's:-
Every other Friday, you are given an excerpt with about 10-15 questions to answer. These quizzes are usually graded on a curve.
Novel Analysis:-
For each novel that you read in this class, you will write a paper analyzing the themes, characters, symbolism, and other various literary devices.
Quarter formal essays:-
Each quarter, you have a formal essay to write where you are provided a prompt. You will be given feedback and the ability to remediate it up to 100%.
